Battery charger question?

  • I'm building a battery charging circuit but I need to know if I have a 4 AA battery holder, but I only have like 2 or 3 AA in it, will the voltage get to the batteries or will it not charge unless all 4 "gaps" are filled with batteries?

  • It depends on how the battery holder was made. If you're building an electrical circuit then you probably know what an Ohm meter is. Put the Ohm meter on the plus and minus of the battery holder with three batteries installed and see if you have continuity or an open circuit.

  • If you are only charging two batteries at a time then you should make connections only to the tag ends relevant to those batteries.
They are usually charged in multiples of two.
The voltage is not what does the trick, it's the current so it does not matter whether yuo have two or four connected.
You could solder to the ends of the holder as though you were charging four and then use dummy batteries for those you are not charging; a dummy is just a case ith nothing in it, just a short circuit in effect.
