Do dogs like it when...?

  • do dogs like listening to music because I put the earphones next to my dog's ear and she doesn't do a thing and does talking to your dog confuse them and what does it mean when cesar millan says no touch no talk no eye contact?

  • cesar says that when people are walking into his pack of dogs! He says it so the dogs know that your the boss and they are not and so they won't get excited and for that person to be in charge.

I wouldn't put earphones with music on a dog it could hurt their ears.

What do you mean does talking to your dog confuse them?

I talk to my dogs all the time No it doesn't confuse them. I even talk to them on the phone if I'm not home(sick at the hospital)-They know its me cause they lick the phone and tilt their head.

  • Depends on the dog. Some like it, some don't. If you're going to play her music though, don't use headphones, use a radio or boombox. Not too loud either. Talking to your dog doesn't confuse them unless you are purposely trying to confuse them, such as saying "walk, food" when you aren't doing those things. Often, dogs learn the words and get excited when you say them, so people take to spelling the words when they have to say them so the dogs don't figure it out. Then the dogs learn to spell them. I'm not kidding, it happens all the time. They're very intelligent.

And I have no idea what you mean by the Cesar Millan thing.

  • ignore cesar he is a dick. my dogs like it when i talk to them. they seem to understand 'whos that?' and 'do you want.....

  • Some dogs like listening to music. My dogs aren't really into it, but my cousins dog loves akon for some reason! And dogs love it when you talk to them. Any kind of attention! They'll learn everything. I don't know how my dogs figured this one out, but everytime you say something with the word "Butt" they'll automatically look back at their butt.

  • I think dogs like certain types of music like when i play slow songs my gsds dont do anything but when i play hip hop or rock they chaise their tails and run around :]. And your other question when he says that he means when you walk in the door dont pet your dog look at him and dont talk to him just let him smell you and calm down.

  • dogs do respond to sound. Excited sound excites them. soothing sounds sooth them.
I have a cat who loves soft jazz. The more horn and piano the better.
I have a lab/coonhound who loves country music. He seems to settle into new situations better or rides in the car more content with country on.
I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback who likes classical, and it is what was played to him as a puppy in the background to sooth the litter to sleep when they were 4-8 weeks.
It may be the type of music and headphones may not be a good choice. I am glad you are not putting them on her...that would be cruel since her hearing is so much more accute than ours.

As for Mr Millan... i don't care for him much. I watched him a couple of times, and then in an interview he completely unimpressed me, and I never looked at him again. I guess i give him no touch, no talk and no eyecontact... cause i ignore him. I have seen too many misbehaving dogs with owners using his 'methods'.

I would assume he is talking about fully ignoring a dog, which is good in some cases. He has some good things, but mostly i am unimpressed.

here is a quote from an article on Ian Dunbar and Ceaser Millan:
Writer Mark Derr, in a recent New York Times editorial, went as far as to call Millan a "charming, one-man wrecking ball directed at 40 years of progress in understanding and shaping dog behavior."
