PRop 8 in california?

  • If you were to voty against prop 8 what would be your reasons?
    ( say 3 please( needing help with an essay i am doing with prop 8 in cali.... and need some reasons why i would vote against prop 8)
    PLEASE! say 3 or more...


  • Marriage is a legal contract, not a religious one. It should be a matter for the courts to decide, not churches.

    A same-sex marriage does not affect anyone else's marriage, and does not create a situation where school children are going to learn about gay marriage. Fun fact: They already are learning about it in California, but it is ILLEGAL for schools to teach it to a child if the parent says not to.

    Prop 8 is the first state amendment that actually *removed* someone's constitutionally-guaranteed right. The law should trump majority rule. (Unfortunately, the way the California Constitution is written, amendments can be created that remove rights.)

    Bonus one: The amendment itself may not be legal if it is determined that it is a revision to the Constitution.


  • I would vote against prop 8 because..

    1) I think it goes against our 1st Amendment of the Constitution. Marriage is an expression of love and passion for one another, so if you banned gay marriage you're pretty much taking away their freedom of expression.

    2) Marriage between two people, whether you're gay or straight, stays between those two people. It shouldn't concern anyone else! It's very similar when it was illegal for interracial marriages.

    3) If one argues that it teaches kids that it's okay to be gay. You can argue that regardless of marriage, gays and lesbians will be exposed to their environment, still saying that it's okay to be gay! + A child's parents should not be in control of them being gay or not! It's a personal choice, or something you're just born being.

    uhm.
    1) i dont care. what you do with your time, is your choice....
    2) i dont believe its right for straight people that have been divorced more times then they have toes, to tell people how, or who to get married to.
    3) marriage rights? they just want to have work bennies.
